Organizational Review

Welcome to the page for the organizational review of the Epilepsy Foundation. Currently, the Epilepsy Foundation national office and its affiliates are in the initial phase of the review.

The purpose of the review is to examine the current structure of the national office and its affiliates, look at best practices at national charitable health organizations and make recommendations to the Epilepsy Foundation national board on potential organizational adjustments.  The organizational review committee was appointed by the national board chair in 2010 and includes affiliate executives, national office staff, and affiliate board volunteers.

The Review Committee met on August 24-25, 2011, in Baltimore, with a National Health Council expert and a facilitator, to discuss:

  • National trends in national nonprofit funding and governance structures, including best practices
  • Strengths and weaknesses of affiliate/national program delivery, communications and relations
  • Clearly defined roles for affiliates and national office, and what those roles might be
  • A consolidated message and brand around research, awareness and advocacy

The committee will be meeting monthly, with the goal of presenting a final recommendation in May 2012. Most recently, the board met in November of 2011. This process will be a difficult task, but one that will help the Epilepsy Foundation work toward increasing its reach, reputation and results for people with epilepsy.
